Lower Saxony State Stud Celle
The founding of the Celle State Stud was decreed on July 27, 1735, by Elector George II of Hanover, who was also King of Great Britain. By 1800, the state stud already had over 100 stallions, which were sent to around 50 breeding stations each year. Peaking in 1947, the stud covered around 35,000 mares, demonstrating its significant historical influence on horse breeding.
Since its foundation, the stud has played a crucial role in the development and preservation of the Hanoverian breed, which is renowned worldwide for its quality and performance. “Hosting the International Young Breeders' World Championships underscores Celle's ongoing commitment to promoting the next generation of horse people, riders, and innovation, cementing its status as a key player in the international horse breeding landscape,” says State Stud Master Dr. Axel Brockmann.
The state stud farm is a symbolic location in the equestrian world and stands for tradition and excellence, having always been a pioneer of modern practices. Whether it's promoting regional breeding by providing high-quality stallions, refining sport horses with English thoroughbreds, traditional stallion parades, or the modern summer festival.
